
ASTM A312/A312M - Standard Specification for Seamless and Welded Austenitic Stainless Steel Pipes

TP304: The main components include carbon (C) ≤0.08%, silicon (Si) ≤1.0%, manganese (Mn) ≤2.0%, phosphorus (P) ≤0.045%, sulfur (S) ≤0.030%, nickel (Ni) 8.0~11.0%, chromium (Cr) 18.0~20.0%.
TP316: The main components include carbon (C) ≤ 0.03%, silicon (Si) ≤ 1.0%, manganese (Mn) ≤ 2.0%, phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.045%, sulfur (S) ≤ 0.030%, nickel (Ni) 10.0~14.0%, chromium (Cr) 16.0~18.0%, molybdenum (Mo) 2.0~3.0%.
2. Mechanical properties
TP304/304L: It has good mechanical properties, moderate tensile strength and yield strength, and is suitable for general engineering applications.
TP316/316L: Due to the high content of nickel and molybdenum, its tensile strength and yield strength are higher, and its high temperature strength and oxidation resistance are better, which is suitable for application scenarios requiring higher strength.
3. Corrosion resistance
TP304: It exhibits good corrosion resistance in most environments, especially strong resistance to oxidizing media such as air and water.
TP316: It has stronger corrosion resistance, especially better resistance to chloride environment, and is suitable for highly corrosive environments such as marine and chemical industries.
4. Application fields
TP304/304L: It is widely used in food processing, dairy equipment, medical equipment, architectural decoration and other fields, and is favored for its good corrosion resistance and processing performance.
TP316/316L: 316 stainless steel performs better under harsh conditions such as chemical industry and marine environment, so it is more commonly used in occasions requiring high corrosion resistance.
How to choose?
Choose TP304/304L: The budget is limited, and the medium is ordinary water, weak acid, and atmospheric environment (such as construction, food).
Choose TP316/316L: Contact with seawater, salt water, strong acid or high hygiene requirements (such as chemical, medical, and marine).
