Seamless stainless steel pipe implementation standards

Keywords: seamless stainless steel pipe standards, ss seamless pipe

Relevant standards at home and abroad:

Seamless stainless steel pipe is an important pipe product, and its quality and performance standards are crucial to engineering construction and safety in use. Currently, the internationally accepted standards for seamless stainless steel pipes mainly include ASTM A312, ASME SA312, ASTM A269, ASTM A213, ASME SA213, etc. Domestic standards are divided into stainless steel pipes, stainless steel seamless pipes and stainless steel seamless pipes for engineering. Among them, the national standards for stainless steel pipes include GB/T 14975, GB/T 14976, GB/T 13296, GB/T 12771, etc., and the national standards for stainless steel pipes are The national standards for seam pipes are GB/T 14980 and GB/T 3089.

Steel pipe material:

The materials of seamless stainless steel pipes are generally chromium stainless steel, chromium-nickel stainless steel and chromium-manganese-nitrogen stainless steel. Among them, high-alloy stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance and is widely used in places with harsh environments or corrosion requirements. Commonly used high alloy stainless steels include 304, 316, 321, 904L, etc.

Chemical composition:
The chemical composition of seamless stainless steel pipes directly affects its mechanical properties and service life. The main components of high-alloy stainless steel include chromium, nickel, molybdenum and other elements, while the main components of low-alloy structural steel are carbon, silicon, manganese, sulfur, phosphorus, chromium, molybdenum, etc. The content of impurities such as sulfur and phosphorus in steel pipes is also an important indicator. Controlling these impurities is crucial to ensuring the quality of pipes.

Mechanical behavior:
The mechanical performance indicators of steel pipes mainly include tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, hardness, etc. These indicators can reflect the strength and toughness of seamless stainless steel pipes in use. The key lies in how to balance these performance indicators and select different steel pipe materials according to specific usage requirements.

Dimensional tolerance:

The size of steel pipe products plays a vital role in subsequent use. Steel pipes for different uses require different dimensional tolerances, surface quality, etc. Industries with high precision requirements also require higher-precision processing or testing.

International Standards:

Internationally, the execution standards for stainless steel seamless pipes mainly include the following:
1. ASTM standard: ASTM standard is a standard issued by the American Society for Testing and Materials, which stipulates the chemical composition, mechanical properties, test methods, etc. of stainless steel materials.
2. DIN standard: DIN standard is a standard issued by the German Institute for Standardization. Its content includes the classification, technical requirements, dimensions and allowable deviations of stainless steel materials.
3. JIS standard: JIS standard is a standard issued by the Japan Industrial Standardization Association. It mainly stipulates the standard requirements for the size, chemical composition and mechanical properties of seamless stainless steel pipes.

ASTM standard:

ASTM A312/A312M-19a "Standard Specification A312/A312M-19a: Seamless, welded and reworked stainless steel pipes"
This standard is applicable to the manufacture of stainless steel seamless, welded, and reprocessed pipes for various purposes. Among them, the materials are divided into various series, including 304/304L stainless steel, 316/316L stainless steel, high temperature smokeless and odorless, etc.; the size range is from 1/8 inch to 24 inches; the mechanical properties include hardness, tensile strength, elongation and other indicators .

European Standard:

European standards refer to the standards issued by the European Committee for Standardization. Among them, there are two main implementation standards for stainless steel seamless pipes:
1. EN standard: EN standard is a common European standard that stipulates the requirements for the classification, chemical composition, mechanical properties, dimensions and allowable deviations of stainless steel materials.
2. BS standard: BS standard is a standard issued by the British Standards Institution, which stipulates specific requirements for the manufacturing, quality control and inspection of stainless steel materials.

European Standard: EN 10216-5 "Seamless steel pipes. Stainless steel pipes for pressure purposes - Part 5: Thermal processed stainless steel pipes"
This standard applies to the manufacture of stainless steel seamless pipes for various purposes. Among them, the materials are divided into various series, including X2CrNi19-11, X5CrNi18-10, X6CrNiTi18-10, etc.; the size range is from 6mm to 508mm; the mechanical properties include hardness, tensile strength, elongation and other indicators.

Chinese Standard:

Our country has also issued a series of standards for the production and use of stainless steel materials. The requirements for stainless steel seamless pipes mainly include the following two standards:
1. GB standard: GB standard is a standard issued by the National Standardization Administration Committee, which provides detailed regulations on the technical parameters, inspection methods, etc. of stainless steel seamless pipes.
2. JB standard: JB standard is a standard issued by the my country Machinery Industry Standardization Committee. It mainly stipulates the dimensions and technical requirements of stainless steel seamless pipes.

Commonly used implementation standards are as follows:

1) National standard: GB/T 14976-2012 "Stainless Steel Seamless Steel Pipe"
This standard is applicable to stainless steel seamless steel pipes in the fields of manufacturing pressure vessels, chemical equipment and accessories. Among them, the materials are divided into more than ten series, including chromium-nickel stainless steel, duplex stainless steel, corrosion-resistant alloy steel, etc.; the size range is from 6mm to 630mm; the mechanical properties include hardness, tensile strength, elongation and other indicators.

2) Petroleum and petrochemical industry standards: SY/T 6267-2006 "Stainless steel seamless pipes for the petroleum and petrochemical industry"
This standard is applicable to the manufacture of stainless steel seamless steel pipes in the petroleum and petrochemical fields. Among them, the materials are divided into duplex stainless steel, chromium-nickel stainless steel, high-temperature alloy and other series; the size range is from 17.15mm to 508mm; the mechanical properties include hardness, tensile strength, elongation and other indicators.

3) Shipping industry standards: CB/T 4084-2018 "Technical Conditions for Marine Stainless Steel Seamless Steel Pipes"
This standard applies to stainless steel seamless pipes in the field of shipbuilding. Among them, the material is mainly chromium-nickel stainless steel; the size range is from 10mm to 160mm; the mechanical properties mainly include tensile strength, elongation and other two indicators.

To sum up, the standards for seamless stainless steel pipes at home and abroad are different. When choosing, users should consider their specific needs and select appropriate materials and specifications. Of course, the seamless stainless steel pipes produced by manufacturers also need to comply with relevant national quality standards to ensure that users purchase high-quality pipe products.
