Stress concentration in welding joint

Keywords:welding joint
What are the possible causes of stress concentration in welded joints?
a. Process defects in the weld, such as pores, slag inclusions, cracks, and incomplete penetration, where the stress concentration caused by cracks and incomplete penetration is severe.
b. Unreasonable weld seams, such as butt weld seams that are thicker and oversized, can create significant stress concentrations.
c. Unreasonable design of welded joints, such as abrupt changes in the cross section of the joints, butt joints with cover plates, etc., can cause serious stress concentrations. Improper welds may also cause stress concentration.

What are the adverse effects of stress concentration on the welded structure? how to improve?
1. Deformation of components, such as the rack of some equipment, will be processed before the stress is not eliminated. In the subsequent use process, it cannot be used due to deformation of the rack.
2. Excessive stress may even cause cracks in the solder joints, causing potential safety hazards.

Improvements:
1. Correct selection of materials:
a. The requirements of various parts of the joint; b, can not blindly use high-strength materials;

2. Adopt a reasonable welding structure design:
a. Reduce the stress concentration; b. Minimize the structural rigidity; c. Do not use too thick section; d. Pay attention to the attachment and the unforced weld design; e. Reduce and eliminate the welding residual stress.
