Analysis of advantages and disadvantages of integral drill pipe

Keywords: integral drill pipe advantages and disadvantages, integral auger drill pipe
Analysis of advantages and disadvantages of integral drill pipe:

Advantages of integral drill pipe:
1. High strength: The integral drill pipe is made of a whole piece of steel. Compared with other types of drill pipes, the integral drill pipe has higher strength, can withstand greater drilling force, and can drill deeper underground.
2. Good wear resistance: The surface of the integral drill pipe adopts a special heat treatment process to make it have high surface hardness and good wear resistance, and can be used for a long time without breakage.
3. Easy to operate: The integral drill pipe has a simple structure, is easy to install and disassemble, and is relatively simple to operate and does not require too much special skills and experience.

Disadvantages of integral drill pipe:
1. Low cutting efficiency: The cutting efficiency of the integral drill pipe is lower than that of other types of drill pipe, because the drill bit is easily squeezed and rubbed, resulting in poor cutting effect, which in turn affects the drilling speed and efficiency.

2. Prone to thermal cracks: The integral drill pipe adopts a heat treatment process. Although its hardness and wear resistance are improved, it is also prone to quality problems such as thermal cracks, which affects its service life.

What is an integral auger drill pipe?

The integral auger drill rod is milled out of thick-walled pipes using an integral milling method. The integral auger drill rod is developed and applied with spiral grooves with certain parameters to form helical wings. Because it is processed by a CNC milling machine, the processing accuracy of the spiral groove can be effectively controlled. The formed spiral wing is integrated with the rod body. Its material is the same as the drill rod parent body, and its wear resistance is greatly improved. It completely solves the problem of traditional welded spiral blades. Problems such as over-welding of the drill pipe, weak welding, and excessive wear of the spiral wing blades.

Features of integral auger drill pipe:

1. The main parameters of spiral milling groove include milling groove depth, width and milling groove structure. The depth and width of the milled slot are based on the welded wide-fin spiral drill pipe fins, and the milling slot angle is an arc to reduce stress concentration.
2. Applicability with conventional fully hydraulic drilling rigs in coal mines, that is, the use of drill pipes does not require modification of existing drilling rigs, and does not increase drilling construction procedures and worker labor intensity.
3. The joint adopts a double-top structure and adopts a trapezoidal tooth profile. The tensile strength and torsional strength are 30% and 40% higher than that of conventional drill pipes respectively. Taking into account the use of fast hole protection screen technology in soft coal seams, the joint design has There are two types: regular diameter and large diameter.
4. Arrange single-head, double-head or three-head spiral milling grooves in the axial direction of the drill pipe to ensure not only the overall strength of the drill pipe, but also the ability of the drill pipe to stir and discharge powder.
5. The joints adopt friction welding technology. This technology has the characteristics of high quality, high efficiency, energy saving and non-pollution, high degree of mechanization and high production efficiency.
6. The joint adopts heat treatment process to conduct heat treatment on the heat affected zone of the weld to improve its comprehensive mechanical properties.
7. Thread surface treatment The joint is the weak link of the drill pipe, and joint sticking is the most common failure form. The threads of the integral auger drill pipe are surface hardened, and the surface hardness after treatment can reach HRC45-50, which is about 50% higher than the hardness HRC30-35 before surface treatment, which greatly improves the anti-sticking and wear-resistant properties of the threads.
8. The integral auger drill pipe adopts ordinary tempering heat treatment process.

In general, the integral drill pipe is a tool widely used in underground drilling and has the advantages of high strength, good wear resistance and easy operation. But at the same time, it also has shortcomings, such as low cutting efficiency and prone to thermal cracks. When selecting drill pipes, various factors need to be considered based on specific drilling needs and actual conditions, and appropriate types and specifications of drill pipes should be selected.
