How to choose the right CS seamless pipe?

Keywords: cs seamless pipe, carbon steel seamless steel pipe selection, seamless carbon steel pipe choose
Choosing the right carbon steel (CS) seamless pipe specification is a process that requires comprehensive consideration of multiple factors.

1. Clarify the usage scenario and requirements.

If it is used for high-pressure fluid transportation, you may need to choose a steel pipe with a larger diameter and thicker wall to ensure its pressure resistance. For example, in the petrochemical industry, for pipelines that transport high-temperature and high-pressure crude oil, carbon steel seamless steel pipes with larger diameters and thicker walls are usually selected to ensure the safety and stability of the pipeline.

Choose according to working pressure, temperature and medium properties:
a. Ordinary industrial scenarios, such as fluid transportation and structural support. Carbon steel can be used, which is relatively low in price and meets general strength requirements, but attention should be paid to the corrosiveness of the medium.

b. High-temperature and high-pressure environments, such as boilers and chemical equipment. It is recommended to use alloy steel, which has better heat resistance and corrosion resistance.

2. Consider the length and connection method of the pipeline.
If the pipeline is long, you may need to choose a steel pipe with a larger diameter to reduce the number of joints and reduce the risk of leakage. At the same time, different connection methods (such as welding, flange connection, etc.) also have different requirements for the specifications of steel pipes. When welding, the uniformity of the wall thickness of the steel pipe is required to be high; flange connection needs to consider the size of the flange and the matching degree of the outer diameter of the steel pipe.

‌Outer diameter and wall thickness‌: Determined according to the flow rate and pressure requirements of the conveying medium, for example, the wall thickness of the high-pressure boiler tube is usually ≥2.5mm.
Length‌: The conventional length is 6-12m, and it can be customized to 12.5m for special needs.

3. Production process
a. Hot-rolled seamless carbon steel pipes are preferred, which are suitable for large-diameter thick-walled, high-temperature and high-pressure, cost-sensitive, and good weldability scenes.
b. Cold-rolled/cold-drawn seamless carbon steel pipes are preferred, which are suitable for small-diameter thin-walled, high-precision requirements, surface finish, and high-strength scenes.

Mixed process scheme
For special needs, the "hot rolling + cold drawing" composite process can be used:
Hot rolling blanking: obtain the initial size (such as Φ89×10mm)

Cold drawing finishing: process to Φ76×8mm to improve precision

Advantages: taking into account both cost and precision, suitable for medium-sized pipes of Φ50-150mm

4. Choose according to the bearing capacity.
If the steel pipe needs to withstand a large external force or load, such as as a supporting column in a building structure, it is necessary to select a carbon steel seamless steel pipe with higher strength and thicker wall thickness to ensure that it can meet the bearing requirements.

5. Consider cost factors.
Generally speaking, steel pipes with larger diameters and thicker walls are relatively high, while steel pipes with smaller diameters and thinner walls are lower. Therefore, on the premise of meeting the use requirements, economical specifications should be selected as much as possible.

6. Surface treatment
Ordinary grade: black leather pipe (direct use or subsequent processing).
Anti-corrosion grade: hot-dip galvanizing (zinc layer ≥80μm), spraying (epoxy coating).
High-precision grade: cold-drawn and polished (Ra≤0.8μm), used in hydraulic systems.

7. Refer to relevant standards and specifications.
Different industries and application fields have different requirements for the specifications of CS seamless steel pipes, and the corresponding standards and specifications must be followed to ensure the quality and safety of steel pipes. For example, in the construction industry, it may be necessary to follow the national standard "Carbon Steel Seamless Steel Pipe for Building Structures".

Conclusion:

The selection of appropriate CS seamless steel pipe specifications requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as usage scenarios, pipeline length, connection method, production process, load-bearing capacity, surface treatment and cost, and reference to relevant standards and specifications to ensure that the selected steel pipe can meet actual needs and operate safely and reliably.
